The Music
“T Bone and Danny haven’t really started working yet. We’ve all begun working together, we’ve all begun discussing music, pulling references, going through the initial process you go through. Music can actually affect the movie almost more than anything else. It establishes the tone and it literally can change the way you feel or perceive a movie and so that’s a very, very long discussion that happens between me, T Bone and Danny, and that’s already begun,” Ross said, adding, “That’s not going to start to bear fruit for a while.”

The Training
“It’s an intensely physical movie, first of all. Jen is in, someone said, Jen’s in 110 percent of the movie, which is really true. She works every day all day and it’s a very physically demanding thing that she’s doing, and she did train really, really rigorously,” Ross explained. “She worked with an athletic trainer, someone that conditions athletes in Los Angeles, she had intensive archery training, so she’s had a very rigorous athletic conditioning program.”

The Girl On Fire
“There’s some things you don’t want to give away. You wouldn’t want me to give it away,” he said. “I think it’s going to be a fantastic moment when it happens in the movie, and I could tell you what that is verbally but it would kind of wreck it for people. I’m going to resist the temptation to give a spoiler on my own movie right here.”

Rue’s Death
“I think there’s many iconic moments in the movie. There’re many moments that fans gravitate to. They’re tremendously important to them,” Ross said. “Obviously the death of Rue is something that every fan brings up, and how emotionally powerful that is, how important it is to the movie that you not pull punches, but that it also be handled sensitively and emotionally and honor the emotion of it. That’s just a beautiful scene, and T Bone wrote a beautiful lullaby for Prim’s Lullaby that’s actually sung to Rue.”

The Other Big Moments
Ross said there are many scenes that fans consider to be the most important, but there are a few that he considers among the most significant. He recently shot the scene where Katniss is about to enter the Hunger Games and has a “tense moment with Cinna before she actually has to leave.” Then there’s the tribute parade where she is revealed as the Girl on Fire, though Ross won’t tell us any more details about that. And lastly there’s the berries scene with Peeta at the end of the movie, which Ross thinks is “one of the most poignant and really powerful things in the book.”

OKP: So you must be pretty hectic doing press for this new album?

LK: Yes I have been–and I’ve been rehearsing for tour and filming Hunger Games [the film based on the novel bySuzanne Collins] all at the same time, so…

OKP: Tell me a little about Hunger Games.

LK: It’s going to be an amazing film, I mean after reading the book, and now seeing it come to life, it’s pretty fantastic. Amazing cast of actors, the director is amazing…and easygoing and extremely talented. I’m very happy to be part of it.

OKP: So, chronologically speaking were you into Hunger Games enough that there were ideas from that coming to the recording?

LK: No, I just started Hunger Games a couple of weeks ago, the album was already done.

The Difficulty of the Shoot
Though Ross and his team didn't have to contend with giant fireballs in the woods, as Katniss does in the first book, the filmmaker revealed that the set in the North Carolina forest posed quite a challenge to the production. "This was like shooting in Vietnam," he said. "I felt like I was making 'Apocalypse Now.' The thing was so rigorous. We spent something like six weeks outside in the jungle every day, hiking up and down mountains with cameras and in the mud and in driving rain storms. We all felt it, but nobody felt it as much as Jen did. It's been an intense physical experience for her."

Katniss Vision
Suzanne Collins' novel is a first-person tale, and it's clear from the teaser Ross is striving to capture that same sort of immediate access into Katniss' head. "I think one of the most important things when you adapt a book like this is to give people the experience they really had when they read it — the same kind of visceral experience they had," he explained. "I think [the reason] everybody felt so strongly in what Suzanne did was that they were with this character, they understood her, they were in her shoes, they were in her head. It was such an intense first-person experience. My job in making a film is first and foremost to reflect that.

"How do we get inside Katniss' head? How do we feel what she's feeling? How do we become her?" Ross continued. "The first thing that allows you to do that is Jennifer Lawrence, because she's such an unbelievable actor. She has so much depth and power and talent and sophistication and sensitivity and subtlety that she's become Katniss Everdeen synonymously. I hope people feel about Jen and Katniss at the end of this three-book cycle the way they feel about Daniel Radcliffe and Harry Potter — that they've become very synonymous with one another."

The VMA footage dials in on Katniss as she's trying to survive within the Hunger Games arena, where threats from bloodthirsty teenagers, devious game-makers and deadly beasts abound. As she runs, the voice of Gale Hawthorne, her hunting pal from back in the district, echoes in her head. "Listen to me: You're stronger than they are," he says. "You are. They just want a good show. That's all they want. You know how to hunt. Show them how good you are." 

The teaser comes to a close as Katniss indeed shows how good she is: arrow meeting flaming target. But all this is just a taste of what's to come, as director Gary Ross told MTV News earlier this week. "We're still shooting, so unfortunately it's just a teaser. We could only give you a little bit because we're still down here making the movie," he said. "But there's a lot of things to come that I think are going to be hugely epic and very emotional and incredibly powerful."

Katniss
Who: Katy Perry
Why: Katy is definitely fierce enough to tackle the role of Katniss, the reluctant warrior and the franchise’s heroine. Can she sling a bow and arrow? We’re gonna go out on a limb and say yes.

Peeta
Who: Bruno Mars
Why: Any guy who can bare his heart on a song like "Grenade" and knows so much about the pain of unrequited love, most likely can get into the mind frame of Katniss' crushing fellow District 12 tribute.

Gale
Who: Justin Bieber
Why: Like we really need to explain it, but we will, just for argument’s sake. Gale is pretty much the heartthrob in the books/movie, and Justin, in case you haven't heard, is the world’s biggest heartthrob. Enough said.

Effie
Who: Britney Spears
Why: Britney Spears has been there and done that. She is the perfect mentor to Katy's Katniss.

Cinna
Who: Kanye West
Why: Yeezy is the No. 1 fashionista of hip-hop. We’d love to see the kinds of looks Kanye would come up with for the games. Plus, with a Rolodex like his, he could probably outsource it to anyone in the fashion world. Paging Karl Lagerfeld!

Haymitch
Who: Wiz Khalifa
Why: Being that Haymitch is a bit of a rebel, who managed to reign supreme over the Games, and being that Wiz is also a bit of a rebel, he feels like the right guy to channel this role.

Were you always a Hunger Games fan?

“I was one of the first readers of the book. I produce movies and I was looking at a similar book when the publisher recommended I read The Hunger Games. I loved it, devoured it, and then devoured Catching Fire. Then I had to wait a year for Mockingjay, which I pre-ordered from Amazon. I was really invested in the books from the get-go and had worked for Gary Ross before. So when he got the job I just emailed everybody and was like, ‘I really want to play Effie Trinket. Just know that I am out here and if you need someone, I can step in.”

Why Effie?
“There is no one else for me to play! And also, she’s so suited to me. She’s funny, she’s a little comic relief, she’s a little kooky, she’s a little dark. All those things really attracted me to her. She represents the Capitol. She understands the stakes of the game but she also understands the stakes for her. She’s one of the few glimpses of the totalitarian regime. She’s living the high life in the Capitol.”

Is the movie going to be very loyal to the books?
“I think the fans will be extremely happy, that’s all I can say. There is definitely pressure to deliver but I feel so good because we’re making a movie that is super-entertaining but thought-provoking and that’s what actors live for. It’s great.”

Ree lovar att hon ska hitta sin missbrukande pappa och börjar intensivt leta efter honom bland traktens knarkare och kriminella gäng samtidigt som hon försöker ta hand om familjen hon har ansvar för. The very recent buzz about you hasn’t been about rock ’n’ roll but rather about you being cast as Cinna, the stylist in the adaptation of The Hunger Games. What can you talk about?

Not too much. They’re keeping it under wraps. You know the book. I’m really excited. The world that they portray in the book is quite amazing. I am looking to see how [director] Gary Ross puts it together. He called me personally. He had seen Precious and was impressed with how I played the role. How I pulled it back. It’s a very understated role And Cinna is a kind of caretaker.

One Millions views!!!

Thank you fellow Hunger Games fans for helping us reach one million views with our Katniss and Rue short film. We were just hoping that someone from Lionsgate would see the film and give our friends a chance to audition. We had no idea it would be seen by so many people. Now we receive requests daily for more Hunger Games films. We know our "no-budget" projects can't compare to what Lionsgate is going to do. And we can't wait to see what Gary Ross and crew come up with.

Many Hunger Games fans have suggested that we do something with the character Finnick. I pitched an idea to downwiththecapitol.net about doing something with Finnick and Annie, when they were younger and how their relationship grew. One of their staff members, Shylah Addante, wrote 7 short stories that we are going to film this fall about Finnick and Annie. We hope all you fellow Hunger Games fans will enjoy!

It's so cool that you're playing Effie.
I can’t wait for people to see her. The makeup is incredible. We were actually shooting in North Carolina. It’s 100 degrees, like 98 percent humidity. There’s, like, 400 extras, or some crazy number. They’re all little kids. They’re standing in the hot sun. We felt so badly. We’re, like, handing out Popsicles to keep their strength up and they’re just dropping like flies.

Are people going to have brightly colored skin?
All I can tell you is that Effie does have pink hair. When the hair and makeup was finished, we had all these people in the trailer and it was like everybody just got giddy all at once, like, “We did it!” and “This is Effie! It’s going to be awesome!” We were so happy.

Did you tone down her look from what's described in the book?
Yeah, you know, it was like, “What’s the shape of the hair? Is it long? Is it curly? Is it short? Is it straight?” And I know Suzanne Collins had ideas, so it was all about like, “What can we do tonally right in the movie?” You can get away with a lot of things in a book that you can’t get away with when you’re visually watching kids kill each other. So we just wanted to make sure that she didn’t look too clownish. And that we honored the solemnity of what’s going on in the book. I wouldn’t say we toned it down at all, but it’s very specific. ...

You have a production company?
Yeah, Brownstone Productions. So we looked at that book and someone said, “If you liked Maze Runner, you’ll really like The Hunger Games.” And I think Lionsgate or Nina [Jacobson], the producer, already had the rights. She got it really early. So anyway, I read the first one and I was like, “Oh my God!” I devoured it in, like, five hours. And partly I think I liked it because it has a female protagonist. And then I immediately got on the list to get Catching Fireand then preordered Mockingjay, like, a month in advance. So then I started talking to the head of production over there [at Lionsgate], about the book. Like, “I would pay to be Effie.” So I planted the seed way back then. 

She was the part you saw yourself as?
Oh yeah, totally. It’s the only part that I’m right for. The movie is about 20-year-olds. 

Sixteen-year-olds, actually.
Yeah, the cast is all 20. 

There’s brouhaha about that.
Yeah, but if people had to deal with the labor laws that we have to deal with, they’d understand why we can’t cast 15-year-olds. Anyway, Jen [Lawrence] is perfectly cast. She’s amazing. The real deal. Honestly, when we shot the Reaping, I wept.

How did you get the part?
Oh, so Gary Ross [the director] and I did Seabiscuit together, and I sent him an e-mail and said, “I want to be Effie!” Again, planting the seed. I was working on something else at the time — I’m always working — but I knew he was up for the directing gig. And then he got the gig, and I was like, “Hey, if you want to make life easy, I’m here.” I think I probably sent him one e-mail and then we had a phone conversation. I called him and said, “Let’s just talk about it, just so you know where I’m coming from and see if we’re on the same page.” Because Gary has his process and it’s his movie and if he didn’t think I’m right, there’s no pushing anything on Gary. And so, you know, we had a great conversation. I know he looked at other people. He did his process. I was not privy to it. And he just called me one day and he was like, “Okay, if you want to do it, let’s do it.” And I was like, “YEAH! Finally! Let’s do it!” 

What are you doing with the production now?
Not much since they’ve been shooting all the battle sequences. So it involves all the kids that go into battle. I’m going back for the first time on Friday [post-dated to last week]. I'm excited because all of the adults will be there, so it will be me and Woody Harrelson and Stanley Tucci, and Donald Sutherland, and we're going to be in Charlotte doing all the scenes that take place at the Capitol, which will be really fun. I’ve never been to Charlotte because when I went for Hunger Games [the first time], I immediately flew into the airport and drove to the country.

The announcement was made by Joe Drake, co-COO of Lionsgate and President of its Motion Picture Group. No further details about CATCHING FIRE have been confirmed at this stage.

Said Drake of the date, “The magical thing about the Hunger Games trilogy is that the books have such a vastly broad appeal. The stories truly offer something for everyone, and the period around the Thanksgiving weekend is such an opportunity for families and friends to make an event of going to the movies.”

Kravitz is about to become an unlikely teen idol by starring in the forthcoming movie Hunger Games, based on the popular young adult books by Suzanne Collins. Set in a dystopian future in which teenagers are pitted against each other in fights to the death, it’s destined to be a hit of Twilight-like proportions. He describes his character as a “stylist who’s more than a stylist. I can’t talk too much about it. They need to keep it a mystery.”

-I’m in the Capitol. We did the wrap up with Caesar and Katniss/Peeta last night. Everyone’s perfect. Stanley couldn’t be more perfect, really. After doing the Katniss interview for two days, the man still had the energy to do some reshooting Friday afternoon with the same pep as before. It’s amazing and baffling. I don’t really think anyone should be worried about anything big. I’m pretty sure all the interviews are done. I was there for Rue, Foxface and Katniss on Thursday, Marvel, Cato, Clove on Friday.

How did you feel when you found out you won the Ultimate Hunger Games Fan Sweeps?

 

To be honest, I was very shocked. I have never won anything like this in my life and I couldn’t believe that this actually happened to me. Of course, as this announcement of my winning grew on me, I became even more excited; I’m still very excited at this moment. The first time I picked up the books, I instantly knew that they were something; something amazing. So to be experiencing something this extraordinary is breathtaking. I am glad I won.

 

How did you feel when you found out you won the Ultimate Hunger Games Fan Sweeps?

 

I was over the moon, I couldn’t stop shaking. I was so thrilled and excited, it didn’t seem real.

Why did you choose the guest you chose to accompany you?

My daughter Eleanor has read all the books and she absolutely loves them.

 

 

What part of the trip to set are you most excited about?

I thought it was too good to be true. I am a huge fan of Collins’ trilogy, and have been eagerly following the casting. When I sorted all the details out, I was ecstatic!

What was the first thing you did/who was the first person you told?

The very first thing I did was panic, because I hadn’t checked my email in a while, and the email that said I won also said I had 48 hours to reply. I was terrified that I’d missed my opportunity!

 

 

How did you feel when you found out you won the Ultimate Hunger Games Fan Sweeps?

Overwhelmed… That’s probably the easiest way to describe it. During the call I was trying really really hard not to scream and/or faint. I am one of the biggest, biggest, BIGGEST Hunger Games fans and I’ve been following every step of the movie since I knew it was going to happen. I love the story of the books and I love that they, in comparison to many other books, have a message and just thinking about the fact that I am going to be on the set, where it all happens is… yeah: OVERWHELMING.

 

 

How did you feel when you found out you won the Ultimate Hunger Games Fan Sweeps?

When I received the call informing me that I had won the Australian competition to go see The Hunger Games movie being filmed I had to stop myself from screaming out! I had to keep calm! After I ended the call, I couldn’t help jumping up and down, saying to my boyfriend ‘we are going to see the hunger games!’

Frågade även pressbyrån på deras facebook sida där de sa att jag skulle maila deras info. Så har precis skickat iväg ett mail och frågat där också. Troligen så kommer man inte kunna köpa EW's nummer 22 här i Sverige, och då kommer jag börja leta utomland istället (blir dyrare med frakt o skit)
